FAQs

What is a bookkeeper?

A bookkeeper is key to keeping all of your business’s finances organized. The primary duties of a bookkeeper are to categorize transactions, reconcile bank accounts, prepare key financial statements, and handle bills and invoices. The organization of these documents is necessary to begin your strategic analysis and budgeting. See our bookkeepers here.

How does a bookkeeper benefit my business?

When tax season rolls around, or you and your stakeholders are beginning to plan your yearly budget, you will need all of your financial information gathered and organized. A bookkeeper is going to ensure everything is squared away and ready for your use which leaves you to run your business—exactly what you’d rather do!

When is the best time to hire a bookkeeper?

The sooner the better, but a bookkeeper can be brought on board at any time of the year. If you are beginning to prepare for tax season, you should ideally hire a bookkeeper by October of the year so the bookkeeper has plenty of time to begin to pull together your financial documents.

What is the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?

An accountant is someone who views all of your financial information and begins finding trends. A bookkeeper is someone who categorizes and organizes all of these documents for this exact use. An accountant is not expected to do the categorizing of your documents, and with a bookkeeper doing this work for your business, your accountant can accurately do the work you hire them for.

Do I need a bookkeeper year-round?

You do not need a bookkeeper year-round, but it is recommended. There are many tasks a bookkeeper can assist your business with throughout the year. Additionally, having a bookkeeper year-round means they have the opportunity to grow with your business.
